Mature larva/prepupa of a rodent bot fly

7296.      Found in our kitchen drawer along with a small rat. Can you please identify. Napanee, Ontario. Canada

 

Number 7296.  This is a mature larva/prepupa of a rodent bot fly (Diptera: Oestridae; Cuterebra sp.). These develop under the skin of their host animal, breathing through a hole in the animal’s skin.
