Yellow sac spider

7219.      Detached house, south-west Mississauga, Ont. Indoor, Bedroom, on the bed near the pillow. June 10/21, 5:30am. Spider is about 1.0 cm length, body & legs. Reddish-brown colour. Large abdomen, relative to the rest, with pattern on top and small yellow spot on underside near cephalothorax. While we do have spiders, including cellar, jumping and yellow sac spiders, we have been in our home 20+ years and have not seen this spider before and would like to know what it is. Gave a painful bite to my wife’s arm while sleeping. After 1 week, bite location became red, about 2 cm across, and very itchy. Thanks. Mississauga, ON. Canada

Number 7219. This is a yellow sac spider (family Cheiracanthiidae) in the genus Cheiracanthium. They can have a painful bite, but it is not considered medically significant. [Note: Some authorities place these spiders in the family Eutichuridae.] yellow sac spider example
