This is a Japanese beetle, Popillia japonica (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae), a very obnoxious pest in many parts of North America. Their larvae are turf pests, feeding on the roots of grasses, and the adult beetles feed voraciously on foliage and soft fruits.
